  Jan Schelling was sinds 1831 bouwman te Goudswaard in de polder OudeKorendijk op de hoeve "Semarang" (eerder bewoond door Abram Troost). Hijwas tevens gemeenteraadslid en wethouder van Goudswaard. Deed belijdeniste Zuid-Beijerland op 22/3/1821. Het echtpaar Schelling-de Jong was neef en nicht, hun moeder c.q. vadert.w. Pietertje Leendertsdr. de Jong en Jan Leendertsz. de Jong waren zusen broer. Jan Schelling en Trijntje de Jong maakten op 12 november 1839bij notaris A.J. van Driel te Goudswaard een testament op.Jan Schellinghuurde in 1842 samen met Adrianus Schuddebeurs, bouwman te Goudswaard,7.96.30 ha in de Noordpolder te Goudswaard van L.W.A. Stratenus te's-Gravenhage. In 1860 is Jan Wz. Schelling eigenaar van bijna 10 haland in de polder Klein Zuid-Beijerland. Hij werd op de hoeve "Semarang"opgevolgd door zijn zoons (uit zijn eerste huwelijk) Jacob en ArieSchelling.
